Every picture tells a story… and (almost) every social media post should have a picture.
Images and videos are the most eye-catching posts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn… and obligatory on Instagram and TikTok.
So, tip #1 is include an image if you can.
And if you want to make it even punchier, tip #2 is add a few words to the image. Use 1 to 4 words, something the eye can take in at once, without having to scan a sentence.
Here are 2 examples:
But here’s what we really want to talk about today.
Tell YOUR story on social media.
It is often said that people do business with people, not companies.
Customers want to know who they are talking to when they mail/phone, perhaps be able to picture the office, or have an idea of the “feel” of your business.
All that can be done by sharing images or short video clips – of your staff at work (if they agree), your building, the boss’s birthday cake, the new coffee machine, the view from your window, the stages in the making of your product… you get the idea.
Here are some pointers:
There’s one time that a longer story is a good idea. That’s your “origin story” – how your business came to be, your journey. If it’s a really long story, consider blogging it, publishing it in several parts (leave a cliffhanger at the end of each part), or including it in your website’s About page, and linking to it from a teaser post on social media.
Now go tell a story!
